Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy
This draft explains how RIDE handles the optional heart-rate feature on a compatible watch. It is not yet effective and will be finalized before the rider beta opens.
This notice is a draft and is not yet effective. For how the app handles heart-rate data today, see section 6 of the effective Privacy policy.
In shortRIDE can read your heart rate from a compatible watch, show it on the watch and keep it with your ride, but only while a ride is recording and only after you turn on “Save watch heart rate with rides”. That one setting is off by default and needs its own opt-in. RIDE does not send heart-rate data to a RIDE server.
1. Health data RIDE handles
Heart rate from a compatible watch is the only health data RIDE handles. When you have turned on heart-rate history, the phone saves accepted heart-rate readings with the ride being recorded. It does this only while a ride is actively recording and only from your linked watch.
RIDE does not collect blood-oxygen readings or any other health measurement.
2. Purpose
With “Save watch heart rate with rides” turned on, RIDE shows your heart rate on the watch during a ride and keeps it with the ride so you can see it later in ride history. It is not used for diagnosis, treatment, prevention, emergency support, or safety alerts, and RIDE is not a medical device.
3. Where it comes from and how it moves
The watch app reads heart rate through Wear Health Services after you grant the sensor permission, and only while a ride is recording with “Save watch heart rate with rides” turned on. It sends samples to your linked phone through Google Play services (the Wear OS Data Layer), which is part of your devices’ software. The phone saves accepted samples to its local ride history. RIDE does not send them to a RIDE server.
4. Separate optional health consent
Watch heart rate is off by default. One setting, “Save watch heart rate with rides”, controls both showing heart rate on the watch and saving it with the ride. RIDE asks in a separate dialog whether to turn it on, and you must choose to. Pairing a watch does not turn it on. Agreeing to the Terms or receiving the Privacy Policy is not consent to this feature.
The opt-in is versioned. If this policy changes in a way that affects how health data is used, RIDE will ask again before the new use begins.
6. Storage and retention
Heart-rate readings are stored with their ride in RIDE’s encrypted database on your phone. Clearing RIDE’s storage in Android settings, or uninstalling RIDE, removes them from the phone. An export is a separate copy and stays wherever you save it. The final version of this policy will describe how each deletion control works.
7. Choices and rights
You can turn the heart-rate feature off in RIDE’s settings, withdraw your consent, remove the sensor permission in Android or Wear OS settings, and delete ride data you no longer want. The final policy will explain how to make a request, how it will be verified, how to appeal a refusal, and how quickly RIDE will respond.
8. Changes and contact
Before RIDE collects or uses consumer health data in a materially new way, RIDE will update this policy and obtain any new consent required for that use. Draft contact: ridesupport@proxiedmail.com.
